Synopsis:
Eli Roth, 35, was brought up in Massachusetts, the son of a psychoanalyst father and artist mother. He began shooting Super 8 films at the age of eight. After film school, he worked in TV, film and theatre production. In 1995 he cowrote Cabin Fever with Randy Pearlstein. Six years later they made the film on a shoestring budget of $1.5m - it went on to become the most profitable horror film of 2003. In 2005 he made Hostel, which grossed $80m worldwide, since when he has collaborated with Quentin Tarantino on Grindhouse and made Hostel Part II, out on DVD this week.
