Friendly Fires
Synopsis:
ST ALBANS is not the epicentre of music or cool.
But local trio Friendly Fires have been a firm SFTW favourite since last year when we were shouting about their single, Paris.
After touring the US and Japan and becoming festival favourites in Europe, the band — Ed Macfarlane, Edd Gibson and Jack Savidge — are ready to unleash their album.
“Our goal is to write pop songs with hooks or catchy vocal lines accessible to as many people as possible — not just cool, cliquey, indie kids but the mothers shopping in Sainsbury’s too,” says Ed.
A mix of impassioned, melodic dance-pop, it’s post-punk with plenty of funk.
Here, Ed talks about the band’s home town, why they’ll never make epic jams and why having a drink is essential before going on stage.
