George Bush
Synopsis:
Bob Geldof has scored an exclusive interview with US president George Bush for Time magazine, in which he describes an unfamiliarly witty and emotional man who has "quadrupled aid to the poorest people on the planet". In a lengthy interview to be published in the next issue of Time, out on 29 February 2008, Bush told Geldof he believes action must be taken to end the conflict in Darfur. Geldof also outlined a series of little-reported US initiatives in Africa in the Time piece.
This is how the interview begins: "I gave the president my book. He raised an eyebrow. "Who wrote this for ya, Geldof?" he said without looking up from the cover. Very dry. "Who will you get to read it for you, Mr. President?" I replied. No response.
The Most Powerful Man in the World studied the front cover. Geldof in Africa — " 'The international best seller.' You write that bit yourself?"
