Latest news: UN levels war crimes warning at Israel over shelling of evacuee house in Zeitoun

Graeme Smith

Synopsis:

Captain's confidential: Nasser Hussain talks exclusively to Graeme Smith.

Graeme Smith has just led South Africa to an historic Test series victory over England and, in the process, forced Michael Vaughan to resign as England captain. Nasser Hussain met him before the final Test at The Oval for an exclusive interview.

Nasser Hussain: Two trips to England and you've got rid of two England captains (Hussain in 2003, now Vaughan). You're only 26. You're going pretty well, aren't you?
Graeme Smith (smiling): I don't know if it's my fault, I've just come along at the right times! I think when you went, Nass, I didn't really understand what you had been going through in terms of the job and what came with it. I was far too young and naive. With Vaughany, I could understand and sympathise with what he went through. And I felt sad for him when I watched his press conference because he's been a credit to the game. Cricket needs a strong England captain, it's an important voice in the world game.
