Latest news: Generation crunch: young face crisis in hunt for work

Tess Daly

Headline:

Leave Brucie alone! Tess Daly comes out fighting for the veteran co-star the critics are calling a has-been

Synopsis:

Tess Daly would like to make one thing clear: she isn't pregnant. She wasn't pregnant during the last series of Strictly Come Dancing either, or the one before that, but it didn't prevent the world and its sister from speculating on the size of her 'bump'.

' I even got texts from my own friends saying, "Oi, Daly, are you pregnant again? You look pregnant," she groans.

'I wasn't. I was like, "No, I'm not. It's just a fat belly. Leave me alone." I laughed it off at the beginning, but it was awful. You don't want people thinking you are pregnant when you're not. It's hardly the biggest compliment, is it?'

She blames the frocks, as much as the pasta. The producers of Strictly Come Dancing had always warned Daly - a former model, who is married to fellow TV star Vernon Kay - that she should never be too risque with her dresses. Skirts slashed up to the waist and necklines dipping to near navel levels might be de rigueur for the dancers, but for the hostess of the show, a touch of decorum was always required - if only to keep dear old Brucie's blood pressure down.
