There were mornings when Linda Fidler felt less like a Surrey school-run mum than a farmer's wife in occupied France with a fugitive RAF crew in the attic. 'I sometimes woke up wondering if this would be the day when we got found out,' she says. 'The riskiest bit was just coming or going in daylight. You never knew who might be looking. It got pretty stressful at times.'
