Sir Elton John has revealed that he was left devastated when a former lover tortured by his sexuality killed himself. The multi-millionaire singer, who was himself married to a woman before his high-profile 'gay wedding' to lover David Furnish, said the ex-boyfriend was torn between his homosexuality and his Christianity. Ultimately, said Sir Elton, the man jumped to his death in front of a lorry. The star declined to identify the ex-boyfriend.

Mika is giggling. It is a nice sound, not pretty, but sincere and donkey-ish. 'You're going to think I'm such a weirdo,' he says in his ungainly cosmopolitan voice, half-Lebanese, half-estuarine. 'But I collect smells. If I really like the smell of something - a piece of tar or my goddaughter's plastic doll - I put a tiny piece in a bottle with a label. I keep them in a fridge in my bathroom...' He breaks off, mauling his face with his long hands in embarrassment. 'I'm making it sound like a weird laboratory or abattoir or something, but it's not. It's my library of smells and it's better than all the books on all my shelves. It tells a lot more stories.'

Robbie Williams was yesterday accused of being 'grossly irresponsible' for encouraging his young fans to try cannabis after he described the illegal drug as 'lovely' during an interview. In the Radio Times Williams said: ‘Weed, it’s such a lovely drug. It is such a lovely drug. But it doesn’t mix well with me – at all. ‘It doesn’t take much to trigger – I mean, I’ll get psychosis from having this cup of tea! Seriously. The caffeine in that is enough.
